“CreateProcess C:\WINDOWS\system32 route.exe failed: The system cannot find the path specified”
“ERROR: Windows route add command failed: external program did not execute — returned error code -1”
This error can appear in the OpenVPN log when Windows is installed on a drive other than C or your Program Files directory is on a drive other than C.
To resolve this issue:
From the GUI in the task bar, right-click on the connection and select ‘Edit Config’. Paste the following line on any blank line:
win-sys env
Save and exit
Do this for all connection options
OpenVPN will now follow the system path to the correct location
