Mobile PPTP and OpenVPN service
PPTP Service for iPhones, Android, Nokia and other mobile devices
PPTP service is included with your Personal VPN subscription but not automatically activated since many people do not use this feature. If you are a current Personal VPN customer and have a need for the PPTP service for your device please send us an email. We will configure a connection for you on our servers and send you instructions on how to connect*.
PPTP VPN connectivity is offered as an operating system option on many devices. Windows and Mac offer it as part of their operating systems. Additionally, most high-end cell phones and mobile devices, such as the iPhone, offer this type of connectivity in their operating system.
SurfBouncer Personal VPN is based upon the highly secure OpenVPN software and is a superior way to accomplish a secure and reliable VPN. PPTP is not as reliable as OpenVPN. It has had many security flaws in the past, some of which have been corrected - but not all. In addition, OpenVPN using the UDP protocol is much better at passing different traffic types than PPTP and therefore, for normal desktop or laptop applications, is the clear choice. It is also much easier to block PPTP than OpenVPN.
The only reason to use PPTP on a computer is in the situation where you do not have the admin rights to install the OpenVPN software. Because PPTP is included with all Windows and Mac systems, it provides a better-than-nothing option.
However, many mobile devices do not have an OpenVPN client available, leaving PPTP as the only option. For our customers who use the regular personal VPN service, we are now offering a PPTP connection for their mobile devices. While not ideal, it certainly is better than not having a VPN at all.

OpenVPN Service:
Unlike PPTP, OpenVPN is not installed as part of the operating system on any mobile phone. OpenVPN clients are available for the Nokia phones that use the Maemo operating system. It is also available for the iPhone but only if the phone is jailbroken. See the links below for more information.
